Samba returned to league action after two successful cup encounters and played host to mid-table Bunny United. Samba started the game extremely well showing a good level of controlled passing in the early exchanges. Chances were made virtually straight away, with Broughton heading over from close range. Samba didn’t have to wait long though, as Hill opened the scoring on 10 minutes. There didn’t seem much movement from the throw in but Hill offered himself controlled the ball on his thigh and hit a dipping shot which left the goalkeeper with no chance. Samba were playing with real confidence, whilst Bunny were struggling to get out of their half. It came as no surprise when Samba added a second when Francis pulled back for Gibbons, who continued his hot goal scoring streak by tapping the ball home. Bunny rarely threatened though Ballard did produce one outstanding save to deny Bunny from 25yds. It was Samba who continued the scoring though, when the Bunny keeper misjudged a Hawkins cross and G.Taylor was on hand to head home. As the half-time whistle went Samba could reflect on what had been their best football of the season so far.

All the talk at half-time was about killing Bunny off and matching the first half performance, and the former was achieved within a matter of minutes as Hill unleashed an absolute ripsnorter from 30 yds , to score one of the best Samba goals of all time. Samba were rampant, and Bunny were finished and goals rained in from here on in. First, Broughton split the Bunny defence to send Francis clear, who made it 5-0. G.Taylor then got his second of the game and Samba’s sixth when he converted a Wilford cross. Incredibly even though his side were six goals behind the Bunny manager was taunting Hill that his previous wonder goal was a fluke. Hill shut him up in the best possible way by smashing another 30 yrd thunderbolt, right into the corner of the net. Broughton joined in the fun by adding an eighth goal, swivelling in the box to finish, after receiving a Wilford cross. Francis got Samba’s ninth goal as the margin of victory threatened to get into double figures. That threat was a reality when Gibbons received a pull back from Paskin and he hit a sweet left foot shot into the top right hand corner of the goal. Bunny got a consolation goal when the ball squirmed through Ballards legs but normal service was resumed when G.Taylor got the final goal of the game to claim his hatrick, prodding home from 6 yds from Francis’s cross. The final score of 11-1 was a record win for FC Samba and just for good measure they equalled a club record of 10 games unbeaten and maintained their place at the top of the league. Happy days at Burton Road.
