Match report
Half time: 4 – 0
Samba went into the game against promotion rivals Greygoose knowing that nothing less than a win would do, after gaining only one point from the previous two home games. Lucas was unavailable, so in came Doughty on the left hand side. The first 5-10mins were pretty equal as neither side started brightly. Greygoose were playing a high line and it became apparent that they were going to be exposed as first Hill then Gibbons were put through but neither could convert. After a mediocre start, it was all Samba as the overwhlemed Greygoose. The inevitable first goal came when Doughty's excellant cross field pass put Hill in the clear and he made amends for the previous miss to slot past the keeper. Just a couple of minutes later Doughty was the provider again, this time from a corner which Francis headed in, unmarked in the 6yd box. Greygoose were all over the place and Samba quickly took advantage making it 3-0, when Francis played in Gibbons, who finished well. Greygoose were virtually non-existant as an attacking force but ironically the fourth goal came from one of their few attacks. Bassett won a header on the edge of the Samba box and Gibbons let Francis loose down the right hand side. Francis made it all the way into the box but saw his shot saved, Hill however was on hand to follow up and make the score 4-0.
It was hard to see anything but a Samba win at half time but the players and management knew that Samba were always capable of making a pig's ear of proceedings. Thankfully they didn't have to worry as Samba got a fifth goal after Bassett passed to G.Taylor who played Francis in first time. The Samba striker finished confidently for his second of the game. The sixth goal saw Loach, on as a substitute, invite Gibbons to volley home and he didn't disappoint as the game took on almost an exhibition type atmosphere. Greygoose did get on the score-sheet and it was arguably one of the goals of the game with the striker curling into the top corner from 20yds. Samba were not finished though, and added two more goals to their tally, to wrap up their biggest league win of the season. First, Francis repaid the favour to G.Taylor putting him through to score, then Gibbons crossed for G.Taylor again to head home, to make it four players to bag a brace in the game.
